FitPOWER: Entering The Pre-teen Years

For those of you who do not know, I created this blog because it was time to separate Jessica Sunier from FitPOWER.  However, when you create a business and it becomes your baby, you have never truly separated yourself.  FitPOWER is as much a physical, emotional, and mental entity, as the people in my life.  I used to look at this negatively because people who were not taking the risk of building a business told me that people (meaning "them") were more important than what has now become my life's work.  I wanted to scream at them time and time again, "But don't you know how fulfilling this is for me? That by me building this I am becoming a better version of myself, and all of my successes and failures will make me a better person for my people (them) and community."  I do not think they truly heard me.  But many of "them" are not around anymore, and that is ok.
If you're not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I'm not interested in your feedback."

The reason I am separating myself, my blog, and even my social media platforms from FitPOWER, is because my business has gotten bigger than me.  I am in the process of hiring and training my first coach, and this guy has been a solid client for the past 4 and a half years.  He knows my style, my evolution, and most importantly, the culture of my space.  Lets be honest, OUR space.  I have witnessed the growth of so many individuals and those they hold dear through the process of strengthening their bodies and mindset.  The very fact that clients stayed on through the transition of locations and even trained in my basement when Wisconsin winters got too cold says more to me about what I helped create than fancy equipment and trendy fitness routines ever could (I thought a tiny space heater would do the trick...you guys were seriously good sports).
Before I get into anything else I do have to put this out there.  My friend Liz and I went to New Orleans this summer (it will now be a tradition) and among the fun food, touring, gators, and exploring of the city, she really wanted to get a tarot reading.  I had been to NOLA a few times and I told her absolutely, as long as she lets me tell her if a place is simply a tourist trap or potentially the real deal.  Full disclosure, I had no idea what the real deal was at that point, but I did know what shops were full of spiritual and merch "crap", so my non-professional opinion is how we ended up meeting Demi.  Keeping in mind this spiritual adventure was for her I patiently waited while she got her cards read.  I will not speak on her experience.  One, it's hers. Two, its' none of your business.  But lets just say it was enough to convince me to put my skepticism aside and let Demi read my cards, as well.  When I walked out I said to Liz, "What did you tell her about me?"

"Nothing," she responded.

I have kept my mouth shut about this for years, but I love mystical stuff.
Then I sighed and thought to myself, "Well, fuck."  I will say I am not a religious person, but I have always thought of myself as spiritual.  Not tarot reading spiritual.  Just a feeling of truth in my heart and gut that the universe had more to offer than what I could simply see with my eyes.  Our creators could be another alien race for all I care.  We should just not be so arrogant to think we are all that is.....but I digress.

What did my tarot reading reveal, you may be wondering?  A whole lot of "how'd you know that" specifics about myself and my business.  I won't break down what my reading was, but I do suggest that if it is something that interests you then by all means, have a reading done.  The more I researched about tarot the more I realized that it is simply a guide for your intuition.  I don't believe in the whole "tell you future" part of tarot mysticism.  But I do feel they can be a valuable tool when it comes to influencing decisions and making choices.  Placebo affect or not, it's fun.  And I'll tell you what, that reading stopped me from dragging my feet about my business and it encouraged me to be a little more bold.  The second I got back from New Orleans I set my wheels in motion and FitPOWER has taken off in the last 4 months alone.  There is something to be said about that, and I'll embrace a little mysticism in my life if it creates a new way to observe my world in a positive light.

Moving on.....

Trainers light fires under people.  Coaches light fires within people."

~author unknown, my business mantra
There are a couple "grown up" moves I've been making with my business.  I hired a friend and teammate, Tim, to redesign my logo and really give FitPOWER a mature, streamlined Jess feel.  I have worked with creatives in the past, and everyone has done some pretty amazing things for that time in my life, but today proved that there was something special in the process of designing and Tim just has that "he gets it" quality with me.  He presented FitPOWER to me in a new light, taking what he knows about me and what I have told him, and he molded it into this beautiful thing.  The great thing is the logo isn't even done yet!  Tim simply gave me a presentation to make sure he understood what I wanted FitPOWER to say with the logo, and he found images that reflected me in creepy ways.  Also, he introduced me to a historical woman named Boudica.  My mouth hung open a bit when he described who she was because it felt so spot on.
There is so much more I could write as I get deeper into what my business was and what my business is becoming, but I honestly hope you'll just ride this wave with me.  If you'd like to help see FitPOWER grow, or just watch it's progress here are a few things you can do:

  1. Talk about it through Facebook (Like my page @fitpowermke) or follow me on Instagram (@fitpowermke).
  2. Head to the new website www.fitpowermke.com.  There are still some things I'm working on but overall everything that needs to be in place is there.
  3. Ask me questions.
  4. Another group I have become involved with is through A.J. Clingerman.  She has a business mastermind group starting in November, and if this is something that could help you, as well, I highly recommend her.  She and her husband, Professor James Clingerman, own Indiana Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy, have numerous dvd's on jiu jitsu skills and techniques, and they do seminars across the country.  Also, their relationship/life story is pretty incredible.  Here is a TedTalk link so you can understand what I mean.
  5. Become part of my family, or better, become my teammate.  FitPOWER has openings for private and small group clients, and I train brazilian jiu jitsu at Red Schafer MMA.  Try a week of jiu jitsu, boxing, or cardio kick boxing on the house.
Here's to hoping my pre-teen business doesn't develop an attitude!  Cheers!

    Thoughts on Vacation Coffee

The world is brighter, the moments sweeter, and the coffee bolder while on vacation.  Vacation coffee is the slowness of the morning before the world wakes up.  It is the smell of your favorite roast and the rustling of crisp pages turning in a book.

Before the day starts the soul deserves a calm atmosphere for a clear mind.  This blog contains all of my "vacation coffee" thoughts, ideas, dreams, advice, and opinions.
